Advanced Medical Support Assistant (COVID-19, NTE one (1) year)

This is an announcement that will be used for filling GS 6 Advanced Medical Support Assistants for the Orlando Healthcare System. Some of these positions may bebe filled long term permanent or on a temporary basis to help with handling the COVID-19 crisis. We will issue list of applicants on a weekly basis to the hiring managers to review through the closing date of this announcement. Advanced Medical Support Assistants are considered chief sources of patient care and patient flow information. The position typically has responsibility to assist with coordination of clinic cancellations, clinic schedules (to include appointment scheduling and changes), appointment check ins/check outs, consult tracking, verification of doctor's orders and treatment orders, completeness and accuracy of all actions/documentation, reviewing the insurance capture buffer (ICB), and using automated systems (to include VetLink, CPRS, VISTA, VSE, etc.). The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (A-MSAs) may also be responsible for coordinating internal/external patient movements between units, VA facilities, and community facilities. The AMSA assists with admissions/discharges, decedent affairs, and also assists with making transportation arrangements for patients as directed. The AMSA is generally the first person a customer encounters when entering the facility, and as such, an emphasis is placed on providing exceptional customer service. The AMSA may be assigned to work in Primary Care, Specialty Care, or Wards. Work Schedule:

MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j Experience and Education. Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service , or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, Education. One year above high school; OR, Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Certification. None required. GS-6 Advanced Medical Support Assistant Requirements Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience in equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Examples of qualifying experience includes, but is not limited to:
specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or care in the community resources. Recommends changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines. Expertise in utilizing numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics involved in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Coordinates with the patient care team to review clinic appointment availability scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information; monitoring the electronic wait list; preparing for clinic visits; monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals; performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage (i.e., TRICARE, sharing agreements, etc.). Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below:
1. Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met. 2. Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations. 3. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, with internal and external customers. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns. 4. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process (including, but not limited to, scheduling across interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community models and patient health care portals) as it relates to access to care. 5. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include, but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc. 6. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians. References:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
