Social Work Associate

Under the direction of a Social Worker, the Social Work Associate works with Veteran's participating in the Homeless Program in a variety of settings. Special attention may be given to specific categories of Veterans such as those who are at risk for becoming homeless, female Veterans or Veteran's with dependent children. Some of the duties include, but are not limited to; Provides services to selected cases as assigned within the homeless program. Expedites treatments and implements objectives for the Veteran providing total Social Work services to selected cases in which goals can be achieved by use of the knowledge, skills, etc. in which he/she have been trained. Helps Veterans fill out applications or forms for services. Assisting Veterans complete Advance Directives, gathering information. Handling details regarding housing resources, collecting contact information about the Veteran's support network are typical tasks. Completing necessary documentation on housing referrals, providing support to the Veteran and family as they struggle with homelessness or risk of homelessness are also typical tasks. Provides Social Work support, community referrals and housing follow-up. Provides those services that support Social Worker's treatment planning responsibilities. Acquiring or following-up on the acquisition of documents or information needed for Social Work treatment planning. Making telephone calls or personal contact on behalf of the Social Workers to providers, nurses, families, and community agencies. Provides assistance to Social Workers in response to the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans. Provides follow-up contacts to Veterans who have screened positive for being at risk of homelessness. Assisting Social Workers in planning and organizing of outreach events such as Stand Downs. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-8 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in major fields of study such as:
social welfare, sociology, psychology, public administration, philosophy, education, anthropology, history, economics and/or English. Specialized
Experience:
Two years of experience as a social welfare worker or social work assistant in voluntary, public, social, or health agency, which must have included one year in a medical setting. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
