Advanced Medical Support Assistant

Advanced Medical Support Assistants are considered chief sources of patient care and patient flow information. The position typically has responsibility to assist with coordination of clinic cancellations, clinic schedules to include appointment scheduling and changes, appointment check ins/check outs, consult tracking, verification of doctor's orders and treatment orders, completeness and accuracy of all actions/documentation, reviewing the insurance capture buffer (ICB), using automated systems (to include VetLink kiosks), making transportation arrangements for patients, etc. The AMSA may be assigned to work in Primary Care, Specialty Care, or Wards. Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:
00 am to 4:

a. Citizenship:
Must be a citizen of the United States. b. Experience and/or Education. (1) Six months experience of clerical office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needs to perform the duties of the position; or (2) One year above high school; or (3) Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.(Transcripts required if using education to qualify). c. English Language Proficiency. Medical Supports Assistants must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C.7402(d) and 7407(d). d. Physical Standards. Must pass pre-employment examination. See below for additional information. GRADE REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to the basic requirements above, all applicants must also meet one of the following grade requirements for a specific grade level. GS-6 (Advance MSA) Experience. At least 1-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level that shows you possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully carry out the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying experience includes, but is not limited to:
scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults; entering no-show information; monitoring the electronic wait list; preparing for clinic visits; monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; verifying and updating demographics and insurance information; processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals; performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage (i.e., TRICARE, sharing agreements, etc.); etc. References:

Work is sedentary and performed in an office environment. There is an occasional requirement for carrying of light items such as mail, paper, books, and files, and there is frequent bending, stooping, and standing when engaged in filling. Incumbents must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the essential functions for this position without hazard to themselves or others.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
