State Veterans Nursing Home Pharmacy Program Manager

The incumbent is expected to make corrective or preventive clinical recommendations designed to improve patient health outcomes.The consultant performs distributive functions including preparation and distribution of all medications required at the onsite pharmacy. As an employee and representative of the United States Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA), the consultant pharmacist is required to maintain the highest level of professional decorum and conduct at all times. The consultant pharmacist is responsible for and has oversight of all medication preparation and distribution activities of the onsite pharmacy. The consultant pharmacist is responsible for adherence to those terms set forth in the contract between the VA and the State of Florida. Some of the duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Provides pharmacotherapy/pharmacokinetics services (i.e. monitoring and dosage adjustment of low therapeutic index drugs, those requiring renal or hepatic dosage adjustments) following physician consultation request. Reviews available medication profiles for appropriateness of therapy, contraindications to drug use, therapeutic duplication, allergies, adverse drug reactions, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, evidence of drug use/misuse/abuse, compliance, and formulary adherence. Adheres to all state requirement for drug utilization reviews. Responsible for and has oversight of all medication procurement, preparation, and distribution activities of the onsite pharmacy. Educates patients on the purpose, proper use, and expected outcomes of prescribed medications. Uses suitable oral, written or audiovisual communication techniques, and verifies through direct feedback, the patient's and/or caregiver's understanding of information presented. Acts as clinical institutional instructor for professional or technical level pharmacy students and assists in the training of new techniciansand pharmacists. Prioritizes work and makes onsite administrative decisions using pharmacy service policy and procedures, VA regulations, and state and federal pharmacy laws as operational guidance. Supervises work activities of onsite pharmacy technician(s), students and or residents. Responsible for monthly submission of all required staffing, billing, and procurement reports to the office of the Chief, Pharmacy Service or designee. Serves as the pharmacy representative for all site visits at the state Veterans nursing home. Other duties as assigned. United States Citizenship English Language Proficiency:
Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Education:
Graduate of and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with Baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Licensure:
Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory,, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. Due to the unique nature of this particular position, applicants must also have a Florida Consultant Pharmacist License.
Experience:
Must have (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12). Preferred
Experience:
Highly qualified candidates will have post-graduate residency training or board certification through the Board of Pharmaceuticals Specialties (BPS) in a pertinent area of specialty. Work Schedule:
The usual tour of duty will be 8:
00am to 4:
30pm M-F. However, the selectee may be required to work or travel between any of the locations within Corporate Orlando, including the Lake Nona campus. The selectee may also be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis, based on patient care needs-including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Functional Statement Title:
