Fiber Optic Technician
Temp to Hire
Located in Daytona Beach, it's full time (40 hours per week). 1st & 2nd shift available
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Main purpose of this position is assemble connectors or jumpers per drawings and attached documentation to meet customer specifications. Troubleshoot and repair to component level to ensure quality of deliverable product.
Significant duties and responsibilities include:
o Mentor subordinate fiber technicians in new design and production builds.
o Focus on lean production methods.
o Assemble components to top level assembly per drawing and procedures.
o Test and troubleshoot using optical test equipment to verify functionality of completed assemblies.
o Recommend process improvements in production methods, equipment performance, product quality and employee safety.
o Actively participate in team problem solving methods for product quality enhancements.
o Master material transactions and labor reporting on MRP planning system.
o Master optical polishing techniques, both machine and manual.
o Communicate written and verbal technical issues to management and engineering for problem resolution.
o Must be flexible to operate in multiple departments and rapidly changing work environments.
Education and
Experience:
o High School Diploma or GED
o Technical Degree preferred
o Training and experience in the Fiber Optic Industry
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
o Experience in handling optical fiber and in the use of optical fiber test equipment - OTDR, optical power meter, back reflection meter, etc.
o Experience in the use of electrical test equipment to perform DC Resistance and Insulation Resistance measurements
o Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within manufacturing
o Proficient in soldering techniques and certification to J standards.
o Computer Literate- proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, ERP/MRP
o Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
o Ability to read drawings and follow build procedures to completion of job
o Team player/ strong leadership skills a must.
Physical Demands:
o Prolonged periods of standing or sitting
o Must have good depth perception and good dexterity to handle small components and optical fiber
o Lift up to 70 lbs for FACT/FITA Assembly or multi-legged Harness Assemblies
