About this Opportunity:
TRC Staffing Services is hiring for several Fiber Optic Technicians for a large manufacturing company in the Daytona Beach area, there is a 2nd shift weekday opening as well as weekend day shift openings.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Main purpose of this position is:
Assemble connectors or jumpers per drawings and attached documentation to meet customer specifications. Troubleshoot and repair to component level to ensure quality of deliverable product.
Significant duties and responsibilities include:
Mentor subordinate fiber technicians in new design and production builds.
Focus on lean production methods.
Assemble components to top level assembly per drawing and procedures.
Test and troubleshoot using optical test equipment to verify functionality of completed assemblies.
Recommend process improvements in production methods, equipment performance, product quality and employee safety.
Actively participate in team problem solving methods for product quality enhancements.
Master material transactions and labor reporting on MRP planning system.
Master optical polishing techniques, both machine and manual.
Communicate written and verbal technical issues to management and engineering for problem resolution.
Must be flexible to operate in multiple departments and rapidly changing work environments.
Education and
Experience:
High School Diploma or GED,
Technical Degree preferred, and
Training and experience in the Fiber Optic Industry
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience in handling optical fiber and in the use of optical fiber test equipment - OTDR, optical power meter, back reflection meter, etc.
Experience in the use of electrical test equipment to perform DC Resistance and Insulation Resistance measurements
Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within manufacturing
Proficient in soldering techniques and certification to J standards.
Computer Literate- proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, ERP/MRP
Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to read drawings and follow build procedures to completion of job
Team player/ strong leadership skills a must.
Achieve and maintain an Intermediate or a Master level of proficiency in a minimum of 15 of 25 core Fiber Optics skill sets (at least 12 skill sets must be at the Master level):

Hybrid Connector Assembly (Non-commercial)
Fiber Handling
Dry Mate Connector Assembly
Soldering (certificate requirement)
Bench Top Testing - Electrical (Ohm-meters, Meggers, etc.)
Stem Ferrule Assembly
Bench Top Testing - Optical (Lightwave Multimeters)
Fiber Optic Stem Assembly
Bench Top Testing - Specialty (OTDR (certificate requirement), Optical Switches, etc.)
Stem Polishing - Machine and Hand
Harness Assembly/Hose Stretch
Interferometer/Eccentricity/TIR Measurements
Oil Fill - Standard (Harnesses)
Hydro Testing Stem Assemblies
Oil Fill - Specialty (Loopbacks, handfill, bladder products, etc.)
Fiber Penetrator Assembly (certificate requirement)
High Tension Fiber Splicing (certificate requirement)
Mass Spectrometer/Thermal Chamber - Penetrators
Fiber FITA/FACT Builds
Hybrid Manifold Assembly
Hydro Testing Fiber Subassemblies (Connectors, Penetrators - certificate required)
Hybrid Connector Assembly Commercial
Hydro FAT(Harnesses, Cables, FACT Assemblies, etc. - certificate requirement)
Training Requirements:
Hazardous Communication
Quality Systems Training
Soldering Certification
High Tension Splice Certification
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods of standing or sitting
Must have good depth perception and good dexterity to handle small components and optical fiber
Lift up to 70 lbs for FACT/FITA Assembly or multi-legged Harness Assemblies
Possible travel to support Field Service on an as-needed basis
Night shift work required on an as-needed basis to support production
Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
