Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications Education, Training and Experience - High school diploma or GED; supplemented by minimum two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving water or water pollution control.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Must obtain a Florida Department of Environmental Protection Water Distribution Level 3 license within 18 months of employment.
Must be able to tow a trailer, operate a boat and operate an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).
Additional course work or certifications such as Industrial Pretreatment, Fats, Oil and Grease FOG and Wastewater Collections may be required on an as needed basis.
State of Florida Class 'C' Water and/or Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificates preferred.
Job Description ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position.
These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
Other duties may be required and assigned.
Conducts inspections of commercial and industrial establishments to determine compliance with regulatory practices.
Obtains samples from various points in the water and sewer systems and from processed water of all industrial plants being discharged into receiving streams or sewer systems to determine compliance with regulatory practices.
Oversees chlorination of water line extension and collects samples for bacterial analysis of new lines.
Provides advisement and assistance concerning water and water pollution control, and the State and municipal regulations regarding such.
Investigates customer water and wastewater related complaints.
Maintains records of inspections and performs follow up where violations are found.
Monitor wetlands groundwater levels using automated and manual methods.
Flushing in the distribution system either manually or using auto flushers Install and/or maintain distribution sample stations as needed Collects samples from homes and businesses in the community for subsequent laboratory analyses.
Collects samples from various phases of the water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Collects samples from various ground and surface water locations.
Performs field tests on water samples.
Maintains field equipment; performs minor maintenance on laboratory property.
Exercises care and safety in the use of all laboratory equipment and materials; calibrates instruments in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Maintains accurate and complete records of all tests performed.
Maintains knowledge of current and changing ordinances, policies, and regulations pertinent to performing the duties of the job, as well as current and changing field methods and procedures.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS Prepares bottles for sampling.
Purchases supplies as needed.
Maintains assigned vehicle and watercraft.
Enters and maintains computer data.
Performs other related duties as required.
