Non-Exempt Grade GS-1 Division:
Daytona NATURE OF WORK This is an entry-level position involving a combination of routine clerical and cashiering work.
Essential duties include mailing court notices, scanning, preparing record searches, and computer work involving accurate typing and proofreading skills.
This position provides an introduction to basic customer service activities such as posting and processing cash receipts, providing forms, and explaining processes for the various civil and criminal courts.
Some entry-level jobs may involve attending court sessions.
ESSENTIAL ABILITIES FOR ALL COURT OPERATIONS CLERK JOB CLASSIFICATIONS All Clerks must have the ability to communicate in a customer service environment and produce positive impressions and outcomes and provide professional customer service contact with employees/staff, attorneys, the public, and various judicial agencies.
Must possess the ability to function as a team member, utilize sound judgment to solve problems, read and comprehend policy, procedures, and instructions, and maintain the privacy of information with respect to internal and external customers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Typing, scanning, reporting, data entry, and filing activities Involves answering and transferring telephone calls, retrieving messages electronically, opening and sorting department mail, greeting customers, and answering routine questions Computer work involving repetitive activities where productivity measurements may be applied or required Organizing, arranging, and coding documents for future electronic retrieval Input, review, and comparison of documents to validate accuracy May be required to use various office equipment including computers, scanners, copy machines, telephones, facsimile machines, and calculators.
Cashiering duties may be assigned, including receiving, counting, balancing, receipting, and reporting cash and negotiable instruments for payments made to the Clerk of Court and balancing of cash drawers and daily cash receipts reports May require attending court hearings, first appearances, and arraignments which includes filing and completion of forms for judge's signature as required, record keeping, and processing paperwork after the court session May perform other duties as directed by the supervisor, manager, or chief officer of the department Page 1 of 2 Volusia County Clerk of Circuit Court Job Description COURT OPERATIONS CLERK I KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & OTHER Knowledge:
Knowledge of computer operation basics.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to learn Clerk's information technology systems and equipment.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of cashiering, business arithmetic, and office procedures.
Skills:
Keyboarding skills.
Positive and effective communication skills under normal conditions and when under pressure.
Skill in processing data accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed.
Abilities:
Ability to learn and perform assigned clerical duties.
Minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute with accuracy.
Ability to understand oral and written directives.
Ability to provide information correctly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, with a reasonable speed and accuracy rate.
Communication proficiency and ethical conduct.
Able to problem solve and recognize potential solutions.
Other:
Driving ability as travel in Volusia County may be required.
Ability to perform overtime as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS A High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
ADA REQUIREMENTS Physical Demands:
The position entails sedentary work.
Requires constant typing and data entry which requires hand, finger, and wrist dexterity.
Ability to read and sit for extended periods.
This position may require long hours in front of a computer screen.
Pushing, pulling, lifting, exerting from 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
